Tesco stores have a huge footfall of customers and there was a desire to be able to offer touch-screen kiosks in store to facilitate in-store purchase of mobile phones and services from Tesco Mobile. The Tesco Mobile Kiosk application allows customers to browse phones for purchase and collection in-store but also phones that can be delivered that are not help in stock, this allowing a greater range of phones to be offered in a wider selection of stores.

The big question was whether people browsing for beans would want to browse for mobiles of sim cards? So Splendid designed a proof of concept (POC) Kiosk application that was trialed in a number of stores to determine user acceptance and usage levels. This was trialed over the Christmas 2010 trading period and into the New Year.

The application was designed by Splendids experience multi-touch team and follows Tesco's Touch Screen Design Guidelines (also developed by Splendid). The design of the application ensures its easy to browse via phone brand, type of contract of style of phone. All visual design assets were created in Microsoft Blend.

The application was developed using Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and is designed to be multi-touch enabled with correct hardware.
