Splendid have an enviable reputation for developing touch-screen user interfaces, be they Microsoft Surface devices, mobile phones or Windows 7 based seat-back entertainment for airlines. This experience was regognised by Tesco and we were asked to develop guidelines that could be used across all touch screen kiosks that were being rolled out in-store. A key driver was that the design guidelines had to accommodate different brands, Tesco Mobile, Tesco Wines, while retaining a common interaction and visual model for ease of use.

The guidelines were developed by the Splendid Touch team following our user centered design methodology and cover all key aspects of the touch interface, most elements also being developed with a multi-touch option.

The guidelines were put to the test by applying them to an application for Tesco Mobile that was rolled out as a proof of concept during the Christmas trading period. The case study of the Tesco Mobile Touch Kiosk Application can be found here.
